Perry Sansing

Interim General Counsel and Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Governmental Affairs

Perry Sansing serves as interim general counsel and special assistant to the chancellor for governmental affairs. He is the university’s designated liaison to the Mississippi Legislature and works with elected and appointed officials throughout the state. He also works closely with elected and appointed officials in Oxford and Lafayette County.

Before joining Ole Miss, Sansing worked at Mississippi University for Women as assistant to the president and university counsel. He also served as legislative liaison there. Sansing was a member of two Jackson, Mississippi, law firms, Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes and Adams & Reese, before moving into higher education.

Sansing earned a bachelor of arts in history and political science and a juris doctorate from the University of Mississippi. He and his wife, Jeannie (B.A. ’82, J.D. ’85) have two daughters, Kimberly Molteni (B.A. ’14) and Lizzie, a senior at Ole Miss.

Associate General Counsel

Donna Gurley has served as Associate General Counsel for the University of Mississippi since October 2004. Prior to coming to the University, Donna was an associate at Mayo Mallette PLLC in Oxford. She has a J.D. (2000) (summa cum laude), an M.A.E. (1993), an M.L.S. (1984) and a B.A.E. (1982) all from Ole Miss. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the Higher Education Department. Donna was a member of the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions from 2006 to 2008 and is currently serving as chair of the Oxford University Transit Commission. She is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys.

Rob Jolly

Assistant General Counsel

Possessing a strong interest in higher education law and public service, Rob Jolly joined The University of Mississippi as a Law Fellow in October 2013 and was hired as Assistant General Counsel in February 2015.  Prior to his arrival at the University, Rob was a litigator with the firms of Thomason Hendrix and Jones Walker from 2008-2013.  Rob also served as a law clerk to Chief United States Magistrate Judge John M. Roper from 2006-2008.  Rob graduated with a B.A. in Southern Studies from The University of Mississippi in 2002 and earned his J.D. degree from The University of Mississippi in 2006.  While in law school, Rob worked in the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office and participated in the Public Service Internship Program serving as an intern to Chief United States District Judge Michael P. Mills.  Rob is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association where he serves on the Board of Directors for the Young Lawyers Division. Rob is also a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys.  A native of Columbus, Mississippi, Rob is married to Rebecca Mcgee Jolly (J.D. 2008).

Administrative Coordinator

Misty Cowherd joined the staff of the Office of General Counsel in September 2016. Earning her J.D. at the University of Mississippi in 2016,  Misty provides support services for the attorneys, including preparation of legal documents, public records requests and general office management. A native of Louisiana, Misty holds a B.A. and M.M.C. degree in Mass Communication from Louisiana State University and has extensive experience in higher educational settings, having worked in the areas such as admissions/recruitment, communications and student success programs.  She lives in Oxford with her husband, Derek Cowherd, and her two children, Jackson and Eden.
